Getting to know: Turkish Delight in Mannheim, Germany

Ayran, pide & caj. Does that ring a bell? If you have been to Turkey before, it certainly does. For those of you, who haven’t yet, I have made a great discovery. No need to travel this far, Mannheim, a city in Germany’s Southwest, has an outstanding Turkish community with culinary treats and a genuine atmosphere.

I was lucky enough to have been taken out there for dinner by my colleagues last week. My personal favorites so far are Ayran, a sour dairy drink similar to buttermilk, Hummus with Turkish bread, lamb meat with egg plants and garlic yoghurt sauce, and a Turkish mocca for dessert :)

Where to find the restaurants? Most of them are located in the blocks G and H in downtown Mannheim. Start at Marktplatz (the tram stops there as well) and walk your way through.
